Install Zerethon IDE

Use Zerethon IDE like an app on your computer, iPhone or iPad. Follow the steps for your device and browser.

Choose your device

Mac

Installing adds Zerethon IDE to your Applications, Launchpad and Spotlight. It opens in its own window, without tabs or an address bar.

Chrome or Edge

  1. Open ide.zerethon.com in Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar (a screen with an arrow). If it is not there: in Chrome, open the ⋮ menu → Cast, save, and share → Install page as app…; in Edge, open the ⋯ menu → Apps → Install Zerethon IDE.
  3. Click Install.
  4. The app opens in its own window. Later, open it from Spotlight (⌘ Space, type “Zerethon IDE”), Launchpad or the Applications folder. To keep it in the Dock, right-click its Dock icon → Options → Keep in Dock.

Safari

Safari 17 or later (macOS Sonoma or later) can add a website to the Dock. It works differently from Chrome: there is no install icon in the address bar.

  1. Open ide.zerethon.com in Safari.
  2. Choose File → Add to Dock… (or click the Share button → Add to Dock).
  3. Keep the name “Zerethon IDE” and click Add.
  4. Open it from the Dock, Launchpad or Spotlight.

Older Safari versions cannot add websites to the Dock — use Chrome or Edge instead.

Windows

Installing adds Zerethon IDE to the Start menu. It opens in its own window with its own taskbar icon.

Chrome or Edge

  1. Open ide.zerethon.com in Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar (Edge shows “App available”).
  3. Click Install. Edge then offers to pin the app to the taskbar or Start, or to create a desktop shortcut — choose what you like.
  4. Later, open it from the Start menu (type “Zerethon IDE”). To pin it, right-click its taskbar icon while it is open → Pin to taskbar.

No install icon? Use the browser menu instead: in Chrome, ⋮ → Cast, save, and share → Install page as app…; in Edge, ⋯ → Apps → Install Zerethon IDE. Menu names can differ slightly between browser versions.

Linux

Chromium-based browsers — Chrome, Chromium, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi — can install Zerethon IDE. Where the app then appears (app menu, launcher, dock) depends on your desktop environment, so the last step can look different on your system.

  1. Open ide.zerethon.com in your browser.
  2. Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or use the browser menu: in Chrome, ⋮ → Cast, save, and share → Install page as app….
  3. Click Install.
  4. Look for “Zerethon IDE” in your desktop’s app menu or launcher.

If the app does not appear in your app menu — this can happen with browsers installed as Snap or Flatpak packages — open it from the browser instead: chrome://apps in Chrome, edge://apps in Edge.

Firefox on Linux does not install websites as apps.

iPhone

On iPhone there is no install button. You add Zerethon IDE to your Home Screen from Safari’s Share menu. It is not an App Store app and there is nothing to download from the App Store.

  1. Open ide.zerethon.com in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up). On iOS 26 it can be inside the ⋯ button next to the address bar.
  3. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen. If you see Open as Web App, leave it on.
  4. Keep the name “Zerethon IDE” and tap Add.
  5. Go to your Home Screen and tap the new Zerethon IDE icon. It opens full screen, without Safari’s address bar.

Since iOS 16.4, Chrome, Edge and Firefox on iPhone can also add a website to the Home Screen from their Share menu. Safari is the most direct way.

iPad

On iPad you also add Zerethon IDE to your Home Screen from Safari — the Share button is in a different place than on iPhone.

  1. Open ide.zerethon.com in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button at the top right, next to the address bar. On iPadOS 26 it can be inside the ⋯ button.
  3. Tap Add to Home Screen (scroll down the list if you do not see it). If you see Open as Web App, leave it on.
  4. Keep the name “Zerethon IDE” and tap Add.
  5. Tap the new icon on your Home Screen. The editor fills the screen without Safari’s toolbars, and it works with Split View, Stage Manager and a hardware keyboard like any other app.

Safari or the Home Screen app? Both open the same Zerethon IDE. The Home Screen app is not shared with Safari: it keeps its own sign-in and its own browser storage, so sign in once more there. Code that was only kept in Safari’s browser storage (not saved to your account) does not appear in the app.

Firefox on Mac and Linux does not install websites as apps. You can always use Zerethon IDE in any modern browser tab without installing it.

What installing changes — and what it does not

  • It is the same Zerethon IDE. The app is the website in its own window: same features, same account, always the latest version. There is nothing to update by hand.
  • It needs an internet connection. Without one, the app shows a “You are offline” page. The editor, the documentation, signing in, saving projects, running code and Fix Code all need the connection.
  • Your code runs on Zerethon’s servers. Installing does not put Python, Java, Node.js or any other language on your device, and you do not need to install them.
  • Saved projects live in your account, so they are the same in the app, in the browser and on your other devices. Without an account, your code is kept only in the browser storage of the app or browser where you wrote it.

Troubleshooting

There is no install icon or “Install” menu item

  • Make sure the address is ide.zerethon.com and the page has finished loading. Reload once.
  • Use a normal window, not a private or incognito one.
  • If you opened the link inside another app (a chat or social media app), open it in Chrome, Edge or Safari itself.
  • It may already be installed: the browser then offers Open in Zerethon IDE instead. Look for it in your apps.
  • Update your browser to its latest version.

“Add to Home Screen” is missing on iPhone or iPad

  • Scroll down to the bottom of the Share menu. If it is still missing, tap Edit Actions at the bottom and add it.
  • Use Safari, or update to iOS / iPadOS 16.4 or later to use another browser.
  • Screen Time or a device managed by a school or company can block adding websites to the Home Screen. Ask the person who manages the device.

Removing the app

  • Chrome or Edge: in the app window, open the ⋮ or ⋯ menu → Uninstall Zerethon IDE.
  • Safari on Mac: delete Zerethon IDE from your Applications folder.
  • iPhone and iPad: touch and hold the icon → Remove App.

Removing the app does not delete your account or the projects saved in it.

Questions

Is this the App Store or Microsoft Store version?

No. Zerethon IDE is installed straight from your browser. There is no App Store, Play Store or Microsoft Store version, and no file to download.

How do I know I am in the app and not a browser tab?

The app has its own window and icon (in the Dock, taskbar or Home Screen) and no browser tabs or address bar.

Do I have to install it?

No. Everything works the same in a browser tab.

Does it cost anything?

Installing is free. The same limits apply as on the website — see the FAQ.
